Mission

We support and design community-driven initiatives to boost social, cultural and resource equity.

VALUES

We are committed to core values of equity, compassion and transparency.

WE BELIEVE:

  • Strong communities are created through the sharing of honest, diverse, complicated, difficult, painful, joyful stories of our past, present and future

  • Just societies are built on the equal representation of all

  • People should be fairly compensated for their cultural contributions

  • We may make mistakes, but we will continue to work together to improve

Community Investment

As an organization, we invest our time and resources into supporting equity and change in the field of cultural memory. Your direct support allows us to do this through:

  • Field-building research and convenings

  • Pro-bono support to small organizations created by Black, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of color and more

  • The creation and maintenance of free tools like Historypin that provide technical infrastructure that support diverse narratives, especially for people and organizations with little or no technical budget

  • Collaborative fundraising to directly support the work of community-based archives and cultural memory organizations

“You must also study and learn the lessons of history because humanity has been involved in this soul-wrenching, existential struggle for a very long time. People on every continent have stood in your shoes, through decades and centuries before you. The truth does not change, and that is why the answers worked out long ago can help you find solutions to the challenges of our time. Continue to build union between movements stretching across the globe because we must put away our willingness to profit from the exploitation of others.”

— John Lewis, civil rights leader and congressman, wrote this essay shortly before his death in 2020.
