Help Shape Future Funding of Small & Diverse Cultural Memory Organizations

Shift Collective is administering a survey to assist the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) to address one of the commission's four strategic goals: “To enhance the capacity of small and diverse organizations with historical records collections.” The NHPRC is the grant-making branch of the National Archives and Records Administration.

If you are affiliated with a cultural memory organization that maintains a diverse historical records collection, we’d greatly appreciate your participation in this survey. Organizations that we encourage to participate have collections that focus on underrepresented groups, and include community-based archives, historical societies, minority-focused research centers, cultural heritage groups, social justice projects, queer and civil rights initiatives, ethnically and culturally diverse museums, minority-serving university archives, and public libraries with cultural heritage collections.

The data derived from the survey will be used to inform the funding and programmatic goals of the NHPRC, and more specifically to guide the strategies NHPRC will employ to enhance the capacity of small and diverse organizations to maintain their historical records collections. The NHPRC’s endeavor is especially pertinent at this time of collective striving for a more just, caring, and inclusive society.

This survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Once you complete it, the Shift Team will send you a $25 Amazon electronic gift card (delivery within 3 to 5 business days). You may forward the survey link to a colleague in your organization to complete if that works best for you. Or, if you know of an organization that fits the profile described above, please feel free to share the link with them. We would really appreciate it if you could submit the survey by October 19, 2020.
